The film joker 2titled Folie a Deuxwill see the return of Joaquin Phoenix in his iconic role of the killer clown Joker, but he won’t be alone in this new adventure: Lady Gaga has joined history to play Harley Quinn, and has appeared in new behind-the-scenes images, which reveal her costume and makeup in the film.
The photos appear to show a scene with a large crowd, with Gotham police officers escorting Gaga’s character to a government building. Extras dressed as protesters gather around the star, holding signs with messages like “Free Joker” (“Free the Joker”, in loose translation) and “Justice 4 Joker” (“Justice for the Joker”). Among the crowd are a handful of colorful wigs and clown masks.
Academy Award nominee Arianne Phillips’ Gaga costume design is a blend of comic book source material and the aesthetics of the first film, joker (2019). While it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet that Gaga will play Harley Quinn, the scarlet jacket and diamond-print top pretty much confirm it, not to mention the romantic message among the protesters and the clownish makeup on Gaga’s face.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Gaga on the set of joker 2. On Valentine’s Day, director Todd Phillips shared an image of Gaga and Phoenix in a romantic embrace.
Phillips’ original Joker was a smash hit, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time. At the 2020 Oscars, the film won two statuettes – Phoenix won the prestigious category for Best Actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir for Best Original Score – among 11 nominations.
While the DC landscape has changed dramatically in recent months, joker 2 it remained largely untouched by the new DC Studios and its co-directors James Gunn and Peter Safran. the sequence of joker it won’t play a role in the narrative continuity of other upcoming DC films.
Warner Bros. will launch Joker: Folie à Deux in theaters in October 2024.
