While for most of the film the plot seems to revolve around the mysterious factory incident, it quickly veers away from Matthias’ mental health issues. At the end of the film, the secret of the factory is only a breaking point for Mathias, who suffered a troubled childhood due to his mother’s suicide.

From the opening scenes of the film, Mathias’ fascination with online stars is quickly established. It becomes clear that Mathias receives a sense of validation from his followers. For a man neglected by his father, this affirmation becomes his driving force. However, as he digs deeper into the investigation, the horrors of his childhood come flooding back.

Ultimately, the outcome of Matthias’ investigation is unclear. It is possible that his delusions fueled his suspicions, as his investigation began with the testimony of his father, who was not in the best of shape and spirit. The man is clearly suffering from the onset of dementia.

Considering the effect the loss of Michelle would have had on Paul, it also becomes highly doubtful that he played any part in the tragedy that befell the factory as he claims. It’s possible that the film dropped the investigative angle at the end, meaning that most of it supported Matthias’ mental health anyway.

This makes all of Mathias’s conclusions rather questionable. The only silver lining in Noise’s confusing ending is that Paul was once again able to save his son, and this time he doesn’t regret it.
