Peter Murrieta detailed his idea for the teen series ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ which was shown on the channel between 2007 and 2012

The iconic character of Selena Gomez on the Series teenager Wizards of WaverlyFrom Disney Channelcould have revolutionized the channel at the time the program was on the air, between 2007 and 2012. According to the executive producer Peter Murrietahis plan called for Alex Russo to be a part of it LGBT+ community.

In an interview with the Wizards Of Waverly Pod podcast, Peter revealed his desire for the character to live in a same-sex relationship with Stevie (Hayley Kiyoko), who joined the cast in season three. However, the idea was blocked by the channel, which at the time was culturally conservative and prohibited any overt relationships or movement, he explained.

“I would have liked to play more with what was quite obvious to a lot of us. We didn’t make it at the time, but it was pretty clear to all of us what that relationship was. (…) It would have been great” , said the manufacturer.

The novel was planned for the final episodes of the series. “I expected Season 4 to be about building the relationship between Alex and Stevie,” she detailed.
