Released in theaters on March 22, John Wick 4 is a worldwide hit! This latest chapter of Baba Yaga’s adventures has already grossed $137 million, threatening to break Parabellum’s record. This 3rd opus ended his career with 328 million green tickets!
Warning, the following contains spoilers, if you haven’t seen John Wick 4, skip ahead.
Given the success of Episode 4, won’t Lionsgate regret ending the story of Baba Yaga sacrificing her hen for the golden eggs?
Indeed, at the end of the film, John Wick hands over his gun to the left, hit by a pistol bullet fired by Kane (Donnie Yen) in the final duel. Baba Yaga finishes off the Marquis (Bill Skarsgård), then staggers up the stairs of the Sacred Heart before collapsing.
We then attend the funeral of the murderer, with King Bower and Winston in attendance, accompanied by John Wick’s dog. The king turns to his accomplice and asks if John is now in heaven or hell.
“Who knows ?”, Winston replies before walking away. This answer causes a small smile from the king. Before it fades to black, we see John Wick’s dog acting like it saw someone familiar.
A detail that can change everything
This small detail, intentionally ambiguous, casts doubt on the character’s actual death. “We wanted it to be more mysterious, so you see the dog peeking at the end.”– explained Chad Stahelski at the microphone The Hollywood Reporter.
Did the dog see its owner from afar? Are Winston and the King laughing because they know John Wick faked his death so they can finally retire in peace? This result does not rule out such a possibility.
“It really sounds to me like John Wick has finally found peace. But you should never say never. Either way, I wouldn’t have made the movie without John Wick. Chad Stahelski. We’ll both have to see what the sequel can be.”said Keanu Reeves in the columnsEntertainment Weekly.
Did John Wick, buried next to his wife Helen, really find peace in the sweet relief of death? Nothing is less certain, especially since the murderer indicated in Parabellum that he wanted to live to continue honoring the memory of the love of his life and to keep his memory alive.
However, it seems unlikely that Chad Stahelski is still motivated to continue the franchise after 4 games that took almost 10 years of his life. The director will change his world with a live-action adaptation of the video game Ghost of Tsushima. He is then due to star in the Highlander remake with Henry Cavill in the title role.

John Wick 5 is nowhere to be seen, but spin-offs are in the works. We already know that Ballerina is on the way and that the story will take place between John Wick chapters 3 and 4. Keanu Reeves will be there with Anna De Arma. The Continental series will also be released very soon.
Rumors are swirling about a second Kane (Donnie Yen) spin-off movie, as well as an Akira (Rina Sawayama) spin-off. Therefore, the world of John Wick is not yet finished. However, given the commercial success of the 4th film, it’s hard to see how Lionsgate wouldn’t put Baba Yaga’s final spin on cinema.
According to Stahelski, the Lionsgate studio wasn’t too enthusiastic when they revealed their intention to kill off John Wick at the end of the 4th feature film.
“Their response was, ‘What the hell are you thinking?’ Are you crazy?” Keanu Reeves and I looked at each other, smiled, and explained that we wanted to say goodbye properly, and that this movie should tie everyone else together.
And what better way to say goodbye to a beautiful funeral? That’s how we ended up selling it to the studio. At some point it has to end”Chad Stahelski revealed.
John Wick 5 is not completely out of the question
On the other hand, the producer Basil Ivanyk also spoke about the result of this fourth opus on the microphone.IndieWire. “It’s an ambiguous ending. I’ll write like this: we don’t have an answer”she said.
There are two wikis for Ivanick, a great assassin and a civilian. “So the question is, if the audience buys the story and the box office is there, do we have another story to tell? I don’t know. At least we’re not closed to the idea of whether John Wick is there. Whether he’s dead or not.”he says.
However, the producer qualifies that the team is exhausted after all this work around the saga.
“These are difficult films to make, as you can imagine. If the film does really well, people love it and there’s a good idea, we’ll consider it. We’re still a long way from that. I’m not saying there will be a sequel, far, but if there’s a world , where we can find a story, we’ll explore it.”concludes Basil Ivanyk.
Meanwhile, Baba Yaga continues to beat the box office.
