‘I close a cycle of my life,’ says Lewandowski after the last session at the STF

Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), attended his last session as a member of the Court on Thursday the 30th. He decided to bring his retirement forward by about a month, to April 11th. Lewandowski will leave the STF as he turns 75, the maximum age to occupy a place on the pitch.

Colleagues were informed of the decision during the session break. The letter formalizing the request for retirement was also delivered on Thursday. The announcement to journalists came hours later, at the end of the trials. The team working in Lewandowski’s office accompanied the minister, who came out applauded to speak to the press.

The decision to retire early, according to Lewandowski, was taken due to “academic and professional commitments”. “Now I’m closing one cycle of my life and I’m going to start a new cycle,” he said.

Lewandowski joined the STF in 2006, appointed by President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, who will now also have to name the minister’s successor. The main ones mentioned are the jurist Manoel Carlos de Almeida Neto, sponsored by Lewandowski himself, and the lawyer Cristiano Zanin, who dealt with Lula’s defense in the Lava Jato trials.
