Keanu Reeves as Dog Man! Even fans of the John Wick star don’t know about his strangest role

There is the Keanu Reeves we all know, the Point Break, Speed, Matrix movies and the John Wick saga, the fourth installment of which is currently hitting theaters. And then there’s Keanu Reeves, who we don’t know much about, who excelled in completely insane comedies early in his career.

In the weird genre, fans of Keanu Reeves have undoubtedly already seen the SF comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and its two sequels. But do they know Monster City, that completely delusional 1993 movie in which an American swims under the features (or rather the hair) of a man-dog?

In 1993, Reeves, not yet thirty years old, was a star. Revealed in Point Break, the man who starred in My Own Private Idaho and starred in the Coppola-led Dracula is a name that’s starting to be reckoned with in Hollywood. It’s surprising, and rather gratifying to say, that he’s then seen simultaneously starring in modest and completely insane productions, including Monster City, co-directed by Alex Winter, his accomplice in the Bill and Ted films.

The history of this unreleased feature film in French cinemas? A pretentious actress, her best friend and a devoted activist who find themselves on a farm run by a strange scientist. A farm in which we find completely crazy characters.

Among these freaks (the original title of the film angry), includes a nose-man, a bearded woman (played by…Mr. T!), a sock, a worm, and thus a dog-man named Ortiz, played by an unknown. Keanu Reeves.

Below, Keanu Reeves as Dogman (start of video) and other amazing scenes from “Monster City”:

Influenced by ZAZ comedies (David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker, Dads Are Pilots in Airplanes? and other illusions on the big screen…), Monster City is excellent black and absurd humor. Aliens Without Limits is rich in alleged bad taste. See it to believe it!

Note the presence of Brooke Shields and Sam Raimi in the credits. The director of Evil Dead and the first Spider-Man trilogy dons the costume of a corrupt cop for the occasion.
