Former deputy is insightful when she analyzes the possible ticket for the race for mayor of São Paulo and the political scenario in general
On Monday (3), CNN Brasil announced Janaina Paschoal as a permanent commentator for the “CNN Arena” program. The former state deputy and criminal law professor was already attending as a guest.
In his debut as a starter on the grandstand commanded by Felipe Moura Brasil, he demonstrated the value of his signature. He made a coherent reflection on the hypothesised ticket between Guilherme Boulos and José Luiz Datena for the 2024 municipal elections.
The federal deputy of the PSOL and the presenter of ‘Brasil Urgente’, affiliated with the PDT, appear in a leaked (and viralized) video of a conversation with the right to criticize the Banda’s communicator at the PT.
“Boulos is heir to Lula’s charisma… If he has this partnership with Datena, he’s practically unbeatable,” says Janaina. “With this ticket, I think the right is unlikely to have a chance in São Paulo.”
The presence of a classic right-wing activist generates an interesting counterpoint to the progressive thinking of other commentators, such as Raquel Landim and Joel Pinheiro.
While faithful to her ideology, Janaina Paschoal manages to carry out practical analyses, eventually also admitting the virtues and potential of leftist personalities. She even praised Boulos (“she’s bigger than PSOL, she’s got a future”).
The former MP also hit the mark by deconstructing Datena’s conservative image. He recalled having been a member of the PT for many years.
The presenter appears to be a right-winger due to “tough talk” in front of a police TV show, notes Janaina. In practice, she points out, the journalist has an affinity for the left.
Pragmatic, Janaina has already said on the air that the right needs an alternative to Jair Bolsonaro in the 2026 presidential election. Her vision goes beyond militancy.
In addition to the USP professor, ‘CNN Arena’ has another commentator on the right: the economist Hélio Beltrão, brother of the presenter Maria Beltrão, of Globo’s ‘É de Casa’.
This healthy plurality seen on billionaire Rubens Menin’s channel is missing from GloboNews, where there is no declared conservative view.
On Ibope’s main news station, all the commentators show a progressive veneer on camera. For this reason the analyzes are often repeated until exhaustion, producing a poor debate.
