The Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST) started this Monday 3, April red day, with the invasion of 800 hectares of land belonging to three mills in the municipality of Timbaúba in Pernambuco. The information was confirmed by the movement, according to its press office. According to the Mst, the region is made up of two unproductive mills “that do not fulfill their social function, which is to produce food for society”.
The movement claims that the lands belong to the state government and were illegally stolen. “Even the plantations occupied by the Sem Terra are free (public) lands, belonging to the government of Pernambuco, which have been illegally taken over by the mill,” reads an official statement from the MST. The invasion took about 250 workers. The movement prepares a series of activities during the month and indicates that all will be in defense of land reform.
