Jon Favreau prefers the Star Wars series to the movies: “There’s a lot I have to tell on the small screen with ‘The Mandalorian’.”
Jon Favreau has carte blanche at Lucasfilm to do whatever he wants, and yet, Why doesn’t the creator of ‘The Mandalorian’ want to make a Star Wars movie?
“I like this medium“, he assures us. “I think that the stories by chapters, and being able to tell so many stories and collaborate with other directors, has been very rewarding for me and has allowed me to be more productive.”
Favreau, who knew how to gain a foothold in the industry as an actor thanks to his work on titles such as ‘Swingers’ (Doug Liman, 1996), ‘Very Bad Things’ (Peter Berg, 1998) and ‘Rocky Marciano’ (Charles Winkler, 1999 ), made his directorial debut with the funny ‘Disorganized Crime’ (2001). The experience went well gave us one of the best Christmas movies with the wonderful ‘Elf’ (2003). Fame, however, came to him when, He inadvertently started the Marvel Cinematic Universe with ‘Iron Man’ (2008).
“During my work on ‘Iron Man,’ I worked for two years, or two and a half years,” he recalls. “Even in ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘The Lion King,’ those movies took a long time. By the time you’re done and the movie comes out, you’re working on something else. Even if you’re working on a sequel it doesn’t seem too connected.“.
And it is that after the success of ‘Iron Man 2’ (2010), and after giving us the wonderful ‘Chef’ (Jon Favreau, 2014), Favreau animated Disney’s Live Action with ‘The Jungle Book’ (2016) and ‘The Lion King’ (2019).
“Here it seems that we continue in the same conversation in which the public reacts and we do the next season,” he tells us in full presentation of the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’. “Now I just finished writing season four, it’s out and we’re in post-production on ‘Ahsoka’ and ‘Skeleton Crew’ so I love this.. It reminds me of the old days, playing Dungeons and Dragons, when every week we had a new adventure and we seemed to continue the conversation.”
Also creator for Disney+ of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ together with Dave Filoni, the filmmaker has his own place in the Netflix series catalog with ‘The Chef Show’, his magnificent title about the world of chefs with Roy Choi.
“I love going to the movies and never say never, but for now there’s a lot I have to tell on the small screen.“, he assures while new chapters of ‘The Mandalorian’ continue to be released, a series that has managed to maintain its character as a weekly episodic adventure producer while, little by little, it immerses itself in the world of the New Republic and the ruins of the Empire as He knew how to make the surprising ‘Andor’.
