Currently ranked #6 on Top Netflix, Lancelot, The First Knight is massively attracting subscribers. Released in 1995, it offers a reimagining of the myth of the charioteer, played here by Richard Gere.
Directed by Jerry Zucker, co-directed with his brother David and Jim Abrahams, Lancelot tells the story of the love between Guinevere (Julia Ormond) and a knight (Gere).
The idyll is quickly complicated by Guinevere’s promise to King Arthur (Sean Connery) to protect his people from the attacks of Prince Melegant’s (Ben Cross) army. As for Lancelot, he must join the famous Knights of the Round Table.
Julia Ormond and Sean Connery
Often unloved—as evidenced by its 2.2/5 rating on AlloCiné—Lancelot, The First Knight is still solid entertainment in the vein of Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, released in 1991.
Along with romance and adventure, the film alternates moments of pure love scenes and battles with an epic feel, especially with Jerry Goldsmith’s soundtrack.
The platform and Netflix subscribers are giving it a shot, so why not you?

Richard Gere (Lancelot)
Note that we can see Liam Cunningham (Sir Davos in Game of Thrones) here as Agravaine, one of the Knights of the Round Table. As for Sean Connery, it is his second time in Arthurian legend, as he interpreted one of the main roles in the 1984 Sword of Heroes, directed by Stephen Weeks and centered on the legend of Gowen and Knight Green.
