The tests in the Corinthians locker room do not indicate a serious injury to Renato Augusto

The midfielder left the field crying at the very beginning of the match against Liverpool, in Uruguay, for his Libertadores debut

Midfielder Renato Augusto most likely did not have a serious injury. At least that’s how some of the tests that the Corinthians doctors did on the player in the dressing room of the Centenario stadium in Montevideo where the Timão beat Liverpool 3-0 on his Libertadores debut.

The number 8 of Corinthians was replaced at the start of the game after planting his right leg on the ground. The athlete collapsed on the grass in severe pain and punched the ground. During the trip, he cried a lot.

– We did the clinical tests to find out more or less (the severity of the injury). When it’s cruciate (ligament injury), you can usually tell in the clinical test. Now I’m waiting for the image to really know what will be done to make me feel better – said Renato Augusto, in the mixed area after the match.

As the Corinthians team returned from Uruguay on a charter flight, shortly after the match against Liverpool, the tendency is for these tests to take place this Friday (7). They will give you a better idea of Renato’s problem and also give you an estimate of recovery time.

Before his Libertadores debut, Renato had already been injured in Corinthian’s 3-1 triumph over Santo André in the last round of the first phase at the Paulistão on 4 March. At the time, he was also diagnosed with a right knee strain, which took him out of the quarter-finals of the state competition, when Timão was eliminated by Ituano, on penalties.

During the 25 days that Corinthians didn’t play, Renato recovered and got back into physical shape, a process that will most likely be repeated with the new physical problem.

– Sad, I prepared well, recovered well. Now it’s patience. Good thing it wasn’t anything too serious. At least ligament we have seen that it was not, which takes away a burden. Now they are waiting for the exams to find out what really happened – highlighted the number 8.

Timão’s next engagement will be next Wednesday (12), against Remo, for the Copa do Brasil. Renato Augusto’s presence in this match will be very difficult.
