The story of Pirate Bay will become a TV series: B-Reel Films, responsible for productions such as Midsommar, has teamed up with distributor Dynamic Television to transform the process of creating one of the largest torrent sites on the planet into a mini-series with 6 episodes.
The project has been in development since 2021, but will only now enter full production. The screenplay will be in the hands of Piotr Marcianik, who described the series as “a classic story of rise and fall, a tragedy about flying too close to the Sun, but also a timeless story about generational conflicts”.
The focus of the production will be the characters responsible for running and maintaining one of the most controversial torrent sites on the planet for years. As the name suggests, Pirates’ Bay has been a source of piracy that the entertainment industry has been fighting for years due to the constant violations of copyrights in the files made available by the platform.
The series will tell the story of Peter Sunde, Fredrik Nej and Gottfrid Swartholm, the co-founders of the service, as well as their activism against current copyright laws. They were haunted by Hollywood studios for years until they were caught and sentenced to prison.
For now there is no date scheduled for the launch of the production, but Dynamic Television expects to provide more details on the work throughout the month of April. The deal with B-Reel Films secures global distribution for the series, meaning those interested in watching won’t have to appeal to Pirate Bay to gain access to the content.
