‘Bronca’: Steven Yeun and Ali Wong explain the amazing finale of season 1 on Netflix

The A24 series has an ending that does not leave you indifferent and, although crazy, for its protagonists “it feels very real.”

‘Bronca’ has just arrived on Netflix and tells the story of a duo who get caught up in an angry roadside incident and then can’t let it go, so their feud escalates to ever greater levels.

It’s all based on them being in the desert, fighting over a weapon, but eventually trying to work together to find their way back to civilization. Along the way, they eat what they think are some harmless berries, but the berries end up sending them on a journey that allows them to understand themselves and each other.

Talking about the hallucinated scene at the end in an exclusive interview with Digital Spy (which you can see on video above but we will leave you with the translated statements below), the main actors Steven Yeun and Ali Wong explained what it was like to film it.

“It’s fun,” Wong said. “There were so many great moments. The one with the rocks, the one with the oats in your mouth, or the one where we’re lying with branches over our bodies.”

“Yeah, it was fun,” Yuen agrees. “It was like having a conversation. We were in it. We shot it at night, like 2 am or 3 am. It felt very real.”

Wong added, “I remember in one of the scenes when we were dating, we did a take, and you tried, and you were hugging your knees, and you were shaking. You were so scared. And then I was like, ‘Oh, are we going to do that? I don’t know if I can do that!’ I was like, ‘Aaaah!’ And then we found another level. But you were so real. It scared me… I really transformed into this other state. I thought, ‘Uh oh. Are we going to get there?'”

“But it was also perfect how you did it,” Yeun continues. “That’s something that was really fun because they’re so opposite. Amy, in that condition, is also relaxing and trying to keep it together and do her thing. And Danny is a scared kid. He’s like, ‘Grab me.’ Fuck you, get out of here. I am scared.'”

The ending is actually the first TV episode Yeun has directed, and he admitted to being very happy that people thought it was good.

Season 1 of ‘Bronca’ is now available on Netflix.
