Three new Star Wars movies announced at Star Wars Celebration

Three new Star Wars movies were confirmed at Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Celebration panel that will take place at very different points in the timeline. The announced films will be directed by James Mangold, director of Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny. Dave Filoni, co-creator of The Mandalorian. and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who previously directed episodes of Ms. Marvel.

Mangold will go 25,000 years into the past right at the beginning to explore “the first Jedi to use the Force.” The director mentioned that his film will have biblical dimensions, just like films like The Ten Commandments.

Filoni to direct an ‘event movie’ in the middle of the long-running Skywalker saga,
which will connect the cartoons and TV series in a big battle leading up to the events of The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will place her film at the far end of the Star Wars timeline, moving 15 years beyond The Rise of Skywalker and focusing on creating a thriving new generation of Force users. Daisy Ridley has confirmed her return as Rey, who was greeted after her surprise appearance at Star Wars Celebration to a standing ovation from the audience.
