Brazilians Jeanne Paollini and Kátyna Baía have been arrested in Germany since March 5 after exchanging their bags for drug-laden bags at Guarulhos International Airport, in Sao Paulo, where they had embarked on a holiday trip. According to the Federal Police, the suspicion is that they were victims of drug trafficking.

A report from Fantasticfrom the Globe TV, showed that the two have been married for 12 years, live in Goiânia and collect trips. They are currently still being held in a women’s prison in Frankfurt, a city located in central Germany.

It is from prison that both speak to their families. “We have never lived in that environment. It hurts too much to be here every day. I wake up and think: ‘My God, this nightmare is not over yet”, said Jeanne in an audio broadcast by Fantastic this Sunday, 9.

Kátyna’s sister, Lorena Baía, told the program that the couple had bought the trip in June 2022 and that for about a year, the two had been planning to visit Berlin, the capital of Germany, as well as visiting other countries in Europe.

“I walked handcuffed through the Frankfurt airport, escorted by several police officers, not knowing what was going on. An interpreter arrived and informed us that we had been arrested for drug trafficking. The policeman presented the alleged bags, we immediately said that those bags were not ours. we did an intimate search and were transferred to another building,” Jeanne said.

Kátyna said the cell she’s in doesn’t even have a window. “A cell on which the walls are written in feces. It is a cold cell, it has no windows”.

Victims’ lawyer in Brazil, Luna Provázio, said Brazilian women are suffering a lot from the situation. “They are so exhausted, they are so on edge. A month has passed and they realize that every hour there is a new difficulty”.

According to the police, the Brazilians’ nightmare began with an exchange of cards at the Guarulhos airport. Images from surveillance cameras viewed by Globe TV he captured the moment when two airport employees exchanged tags on the victims’ bags.

As the images show, the employees separated the two bags and took a photo with their cell phones. Then one of them removed the tags from Kátyna and Jeanne’s bags and replaced them with other tags.

Meanwhile, the cameras also filmed the moment in which, at the airport entrance, two women, not yet identified by the police, arrived with two suitcases full of cocaine, according to the investigations.

Images released by Fantastic shows that, in the hall, one of these women is talking on her cell phone. Immediately, an airline employee who is sitting in one of the next cabins stands up and nods. The two alleged passengers follow her.

According to PF, those counters were not open for check-in on any flights at the time. So much so that none of the women present documents or take a boarding pass. Even three minutes later, the alleged passengers left the airport.

Also according to the images, after which the bags of cocaine followed the conveyor belt and the members of the gang began to move to find the bags with the drugs, after having taken them to the area where the others are already.

According to the police informed the Fantastic, these bags could not freely leave the domestic departure area for the international departure area via the runway. The criminals would have done it to escape the X-rays.

The scheme was carried out because the luggage of Kátyna, Jeanne and the others ended up in the same container as the luggage with the drugs. Then the luggage was taken on the plane to Germany.

According to the PF, the name tags of Kátyna and Jeanne were placed on the suitcases with the drugs behind a pillar, which was a blind spot for the camera.

The prison

The two traveled on March 5 to visit Berlin, the capital of Germany, and other European countries. “They are in separate cells and they told me they are tiny. They said they are cold because the prison does not provide adequate warm clothing and they had all their personal property confiscated,” the lawyer denounced.

The couple were stopping in Frankfurt on their way to Berlin when they were arrested and their luggage has not been found to this day. With their arrest, the federal police began investigating the case and found evidence that they were not bringing cocaine into Germany.

Police found that third-party employees at Guarulhos International Airport exchanged luggage tags to ship drugs overseas. Police arrested six suspects.

German authorities have said there are strong indications that the Brazilian women are indeed innocent, but they want access to all videos obtained by the federal police and a full investigation, with the suspects apprehended, before releasing them.

Goiás federal police superintendent Marcela Rodrigues said there were indications that the Goiás women arrested in Germany were not the owners of the suitcases with cocaine.

Jeanne and Kátyna had the Frankfurt court keep their prison after a hearing on April 5, the day they completed a month’s detention in a women’s penitentiary in the city.

According to the international affairs office in Goiás, a German judge requested that the evidence obtained by the federal police during the investigation be sent by the Ministry of Justice and Itamaraty.
