The NYPD franchise still has a bright future! According to the information TVLineNBC has indeed renewed the parent series for an additional season, as well as NYPD and Organized Crime NY.
Thus, this announcement means that NYPD is getting a twenty-third season, while NYPD, still headed by Mariska Hargitay, will begin its 25th season next fall.
Finally Organized Crime, the latest spin on the Christopher Mellon-helmed character, will get a 4th season, which will, however, be shortened by a few episodes.
However, according to TVLine, the latter will indeed only consist of 13 episodes, as opposed to the usual 22, with the producers of the detective series having a very specific plan in mind for the upcoming season.
The announcement to renew the three series created by Dick Wolf really comes as no surprise, with New York SVU and New York Organized Crimes both ranking among NBC’s 10 most-watched drama series this year.
Alongside this announcement, NBC also revealed that Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med will also return next season for seasons 12, 11, and 9, respectively.
2012’s Chicago Fire, averaging 9.5 million viewers, remains NBC’s most-watched drama series, followed by Chicago Fire and Med. A success that does not expire despite the years.
“We understand the emotional connection our audience has with these characters and look forward to their stories next season.Lisa Katz, president of programming at NBCUniversal, said.
“Big thanks to Dick Wolff and his amazing team who have mastered the art of producing incredibly engaging series week after week..”
“I am excited to continue my four-decade long association with Universal Television and NBC” explained Dick Wolf, creator of the Law & Order and Chicago franchises.
“That these six series are getting new seasons is the biggest reward for the actors, producers and writers. I also want to thank our fans who have allowed our series to remain on the air for a total of 84 seasons..”
