AGU defines compensation for the family of the waste collector killed in a military operation


The amount will be divided between the mother and the two sisters, in addition to the payment of the life pension and funeral expenses.

The street sweeper’s family Luciano Macedo will receive compensation from the Union. He was killed by army soldiers during a law and order operation (GLO) in Rio de Janeiro, in 2019. The information was released this Tuesday (11) by the Attorney General’s Office (AGU).




According to the agency, the agreement has been ratified by the Federal Court and provides for a total payment of R$ 841,000 to the family. The amount was divided as follows: R$ 493,000 will be allocated to Luciano’s mother, Aparecida Macedonia; BRL 123.2 thousand for each of the collector’s sisters, Bianca Macedo AND Lucimara Macedo; R$ 21,700 in life pension; R$ 3.5 thousand for payment of funeral expenses and R$ 76.4 thousand for legal costs.

The union’s national prosecutor, Clara Nitaohe cited the need for repairs for the collector’s family. “The agreement demonstrates the Union’s willingness to contribute to swift and fair compensation for those affected by violence by public officials. We know that the life of a family member is priceless, but we believe that the amicable and consensual conclusion of a lawsuit is an important step not only for justice, but for the much-needed pacification of society”.

According to the AGU, an agreement on the same line is underway with the musician’s family members. Evaldo Santoswho also died during the episode.

Luciano and Evaldo were killed during an operation in which soldiers were looking for the perpetrators of a robbery and shot down the car where Evaldo was, a white Ford KA. The musician’s father-in-law was injured in the action, while his wife, son and a friend who were also in the middle were not hit. Collector Luciano was shot while trying to help Evaldo and died 11 days later in hospital.
