Tiny Beautiful Things, a series created by Liz Tigellar with Kathryn Hahn, Sarah Pidgeon, Quentin Pleir… Available on Disney+

An exciting story

Launching on Disney+ on April 7, the miniseries Tiny Beautiful Things is captivating viewers, not only with its cast, but especially with its story, which is based on a rather unusual premise. Claire Pearce, played by Kathryn Hahn, is 49 years old and you might think she’s settled, she’s completely lost in life.

She was recently kicked out of the house by her husband. His 16-year-old daughter hates him. And she was fired from her job at a nursing home. Stopping in his life, he comes across an old acquaintance who entrusts him to write the section “Dear Sugar”, where he answers the pained souls. Against all odds, someone who has put writing aside in life finds the right words for these anonymous people seeking an attentive and sympathetic ear.

Originally, before becoming a TV series, Tiny Beautiful Things was a series of advice in the form of chronicles, so appreciated and inspired by readers that they were collected into a book, then turned into a podcast. Cheryl Strayed’s column was titled “Dear Sugar” and helped readers get through tough times with wit, style and compassion.

Liz Tigelaar’s series (Little Fires Everywhere) recreates the tone and atmosphere of the articles written by Cheryl. They were all based on events in her life and letters she received from readers, so on the most visceral level, you could say, yes, this is a true story.

in the interview heCheryl Strayed said that Claire’s character in the show is based on her and real moments from her life are shown on screen, but it is not a reality show that follows the linear course of her real life.

At the heart of Sherrill’s story is a tragic and heartbreaking event that will fuel her writing. In March 1991, when Cheryl was in her last year of college, her mother died of lung cancer at the age of 45. This traumatic event led Cheryl to become addicted to heroin.

The author has described this loss as her “genesis story” and is very open about her books and essays in describing her life during this time. That’s how the series describes itself over the course of eight episodes. Let us remind you that this is the same Cheryl Strayed who wrote the famous book of memoirs that inspired the movie Wild with Reese Witherspoon.
