In 1937, the history of Walt Disney, and what would later become his company, made history with an audiovisual piece. That was the year that ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ was released, the first of many animated films that the company would present to us in the coming years, reaching our days. It was the first full-length traditionally animated feature film, as well as being Disney’s first animated film, a classic that is now over 85 years old.
Now the film is one of the works that joins the Disney classics club with a live action version. A group in which more films are gradually added, either from the company’s early years such as ‘Cinderella’ or ‘The Jungle Book’, or from the most current ones, such as ‘Moana’.
Disney has been with his first classic in mind for some time in order to make a version in the flesh. Plans for a remake were announced in October 2016. This story will now be reimagined as a live-action film some 211 years after its origin, and more than eighty years after the classic’s release.
‘Snow White’: release date
During the presentation of the Expo D23 2022, it was announced that ‘Snow White’ will be released in 2024. This was confirmed through an official tweet from the Walt Disney Studios Twitter account. Its release date is set for on March 22, 2024.
‘Snow White’: Direction and crew
The live-action adaptation of Snow White will be directed by Marc Webbknown for his work on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, and with a script by the Academy Award nominee Greta Gerwig (‘Lady Bird’, ‘Barbie’) and Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train). Marc Platt (‘La La Land’) will produce the film along with co-producer Russell Allen (‘The Little Mermaid’) and executive producer Callum McDougall (Mary Poppins Returns). Mandy Walker (‘Elvis’) is the film’s cinematographer. The soundtrack will be provided by the composers, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
The Snow White movie was supposed to start filming in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay. In August 2021 it was revealed that filming would take place in the UK from March to July 2022. Gadot announced that he had finished shooting his sequences on April 22, 2022. Zegler later confirmed that filming on Snow White wrapped on July 13, 2022.
‘Snow White’: Cast
The Disney classic designed two characters that are already memorable in the collective imagination, as well as being two references in the classic tale. The casting had to have big names for such iconic figures.
Rachel Zegler was cast to play Snow White in June 2021. “Never in a million years did I imagine this would be a possibility for me,” said the young actress on Variety’s Actors on Actors series. Zegler made her acting debut as her in the 2021 musical drama ‘West Side Story’. For her role, she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. She was also in the DC Comics superhero sequel, ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’. Coming soon, the young actress has the highly anticipated prequel film ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ and the original animated musical ‘Spellbound’.
Gal Gadot will be the Evil Queen, a role that was announced in November 2021. Gadot first broke into Hollywood when she played Gisele Yashar in ‘Fast & Furious’, a role she reprized in ‘Fast Five’ and ‘Fast & Furious 6’. But she was her with Wonder Woman in the DC movies where she became known worldwide. Upcoming projects of hers include ‘Heart of Stone’ and ‘Cleopatra’.
Tony Award-winning actor Andrew Burnap will join the cast of Snow White as the male lead in January 2022. However, he will not play any characters from the animated film. Instead, Burnap will play a new male character named Jonathan. Burnap starred in the 2019 Broadway production of The Inheritance, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.
At the Denver Fan Expo in 2022, Martin Klebba announced that he would play Grumpy in the remake. We still have to wait who will be Wise, Dopey, Sleepy…
Dujonna Gift will appear as a character named Maple, while Colin Michael Carmichael’s role has yet to be revealed.
‘Snow White‘: Synopsis
Snow White is a live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” which premiered in 1937. However, it seems Disney is approaching the characters of the seven dwarfs in a new way for avoid reiterating the biases of the first animated feature. Lead actress Zegler also hinted at contemporary revisions to the story meant to appeal to the progressive audience during the D23 event.
Due to the lack of the Seven Dwarfs from the first film, Disney also changed the film’s title to Snow White. The film also gains a new character who will play Snow White’s love interest. Numerous tweaks have been incorporated that could significantly change the plot of the original film.
‘Snow White’: Images and official trailer
Disney has yet to release any Snow White trailers yet. Some images were shown during the D23 pass.
