Agenda highlights the importance given to the company, which has been operating in Brazil for 25 years, by the current federal government
A visit to a Huawei R&D center in China was something different. The Brazilian delegation, with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja, was welcomed with live music. The song? One of the most famous in the country abroad: ‘Girl from Ipanema’, eternal arrangement by Tom Jobim with lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes. One of the YouTube versions of the song, for example, has more than 5 million views.
The video released by the Government Communications Secretariat shows an excerpt of the song being performed.

During the meeting, Lula and the first lady also tried out the company’s virtual reality glasses.
But Lula’s full visit has more important implications, for both the company and the government. According to Renato Cruz, a professor at the Senac university center and a technology specialist, Huawei has a prominent position in the cellular infrastructure market: the company has remained in the country, in the recently adopted 5G market. The Chinese company has been in the country for 25 years.
