Works by Moretti, Rohrwacher and Bellocchio were chosen
The 76th Cannes Film Festival, which takes place between May 16 and 27, announced this Thursday (13) the films that will compete for the Palme d’Or, the main prize of the event.
Among the 19 selected, three Italian works: “Il sol dell’Avvenire”, by Nanni Moretti, “La Chimera”, by Alice Rohrwacher, and “Rapito”, by Marco Bellocchio.
“Italy is a great country of cinema, which goes through and overcomes crises,” said Cannes Film Festival managing director Therry Frémaux during the post-announcement press conference.
Check out all the top nominees for the awards: Jessica Hausner’s “Club Zero”; Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest”; Aki Kaurismaki’s “Fallen Leaves”; “Les Filles D’Olfa”, by Kaouther Ben Hania; Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City”; Justine Triet’s “Anatomie d’Une Chute”; Kore-Eda Hirokazu’s “Monster”; “The Sun of the Future”, by Nanni Moretti; “L’Été Dernier”, by Catherine Breillat; Nuri Bilge’s “Kuru Otlar Ustune”; Alice Rohrwacher’s “The Chimera”; Tran Anh Hun’s “La Passion de Dodin Bouffant”; “Kidnapped”, by Marco Bellocchio; Todd Haynes’ “May December”; Wang Bing’s “Jeunesse”; Ken Loach’s “Old Oak”; “Banel and Adama”, by Ramata-Toulaye Sy; Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days”; and Karim Ainouz’s “Firebrand.”
Brazil does not have a representative in the main dispute, but it does have work in the Un Certain Regard exhibition, with “A Flor do Buriti”, by Portuguese João Salaviza and Brazilian Renée Nader Messora. Brazilian director Kléber Mendonça Filho will show “Retratos Fantasmas” in a special session during the event. .
