The circumstances of Julia Ituma’s death have not yet been clarified.
The opposite Julia Ituma, a promise of Italian volleyball, died this Thursday, at the age of 18. The player, who played for Novara, fell from the window of a hotel in the city of Istanbul, in Turkey, but the circumstances of the accident have not yet been clarified.
Considered one of volleyball’s great promises, Ituma has often been compared Paola Egonu, the biggest star of the Italian national team and considered by many to be the best player in the world today. The young opposite was making her first season at Novara, one of the biggest clubs in the country, after being revealed by the Club Italia project.
In a publication shared on social media, Federvolley (Italian Volleyball Federation) said Ituma “will always be remembered”. On the official website, the institution released a statement with a statement by the president of the Federation, Giuseppe Manfredi, and established the observance of a minute’s silence before all volleyball matches until Sunday.
– We are all dismayed by this tragedy which affects not only the world of volleyball, but the entire Italian sport. Today we mourn the loss, not only of a great talent, but above all of a splendid 18-year-old girl who we have seen grow closely at Club Italia, season after season.
– My first thought goes to Julia’s family, to whom I offer my deepest condolences and assure the maximum support of the Italian Volleyball Federation. We are in constant contact with the Igor Gorgonzola Novara company and with the President of the Turkish Federation to provide all possible support. At this point I believe that any other word is useless, it is a huge tragedy for which none of us was even prepared – she added.
