The first details of The Equalizer 3 promise big changes: this time Denzel Washington will deal with the mafia

For a long time, it didn’t look like Denzel Washington would return as Robert McCall. While The Equalizer 3 hits theaters in less than six months, the first plot details have already been revealed.

Following the thriller In Pursuit, with Liam Neeson, many other action films have been created in which Hollywood’s established stars are a one-man army, and with great success. After his success with John Wick, Keanu Reeves is having his second spring as an actor, who has just reached new heights with the acclaimed John Wick 4, and Denzel Washington has also delighted audiences as The Equalizer.

Based on a TV series from the 80s, the first feature film was well received and, four years later, also won a sequel with The Equalizer 2, in which we follow another chapter on former agent Robert McCall. But then the project fell silent. And while a series called The Equalizer (2021) (starring Queen Latifah in the lead role of Robyn McCall) was being released as a new, revamped take on the TV classic, a new movie seemed a long way off. After all, Washington isn’t getting any younger either, celebrating his 70th birthday next year. But none of that matters now. The Equalizer 3 will hit theaters on August 31, 2023…

While details on the sequel have so far been limited to the film’s cast both in front of and behind the camera, we finally have the first details on the contents of Denzel Washington’s third appearance as Robert McCall.

What is The Protector 3 about?

Robert McCall finds it hard to leave behind the events of the past and especially the actions. His murderous activities on behalf of the government torment him. Through his commitment to the oppressed, he seeks to redeem himself, so to speak.

In The Equalizer 3, however, McCall finds himself for the first time in a completely new environment, namely the beautiful southern Italy, where he feels surprisingly at ease. He’s enjoying life here, meeting new people, but the first signs of trouble aren’t far off. Because your new friends are under the control of an underworld boss. To get them away from the gangster, McCall sees only one way out – to take on the mafia himself.

Promising cast in front of and behind the camera

Fans of vigilante thrillers will likely have The Equalizer 3 at the top of their list. checklist — and they’re probably doing quite well, largely thanks to the up-and-comers involved. In addition to Washington, director Antoine Fuqua (The Shooter, The White House) returns to the director’s chair. The screenplay is once again written by Richard Wenk, a genre expert who has also written the stories for action films such as The Professional, Fixed Price Killer and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

Meanwhile, in front of the cameras there is a very special reunion: in addition to Washington, this time we will also see Dakota Fanning. Now 29, Washington starred opposite Fanning in Burning Vengeance, one of the best vengeful films of all time. Was it auspicious?

Incidentally, after several film adaptations, the novel on which Flames of Vengeance is based will be a Netflix original series.
