Jorge Sampaoli is the new Flamengo coach; club has given up waiting for Jorge Jesus

The Argentine arrives to replace Portuguese Vítor Pereira and recover the athletes’ spirit after losing five titles this season

The Argentinian Jorge Sampaoli is the new Flamengo coach. The Rossoneri officially announced the name of the Argentinian to replace the Portuguese Vítor Pereira, sent off earlier this week after the defeat in the Campeonato Carioca final.

Flamengo informs that Samapoli’s contract extends until December 31, 2024. Therefore, the forecast is that the Argentine will command the team for the rest of this season and for all of next.

“Club de Regatas do Flamengo announces that it has signed an agreement with coach Jorge Sampaoli to manage the professional football team until December 31, 2024,” the club wrote on social media.

After the sacking of Vítor Pereira, Sampaoli was chosen as the second option in the AC Milan draw. Flamengo gave priority to Jorge Jesus, currently at Fenerbahçe, but the Portuguese was only able to take charge of the team after the end of the season in Turkey at the end of May. Unable to wait, especially after the defeat against Maringá in the Copa do Brasil, the Rossoneri management opted for Sampaoli.
