Eurico Cahu and Fernando Albuquerque of Pernambuco raised mugs at the contest. In mixed doubles, Pedro Consiglio and Giovanna Pedrini from Alagoas
Last Sunday the last champions of Pure Beach were defined, in Praia do Frances, in Marechal Deodoro (AL). The tournament is one of the largest in the world, a BT 400 with a prize pool of US$35,000 and 440 points in the International Tennis Federation rankings.
Alagoan Eurico Cahu, world number 209, celebrated his biggest success on home soil when he lifted the BT 10 tournament trophy. He and Pernambuco native Fernando Albuquerque defeated Bahian duo Augusto Oliveira and Murilo Valadares by 1/6 6/4 10/7. He didn’t hide his emotion at the unprecedented goal at home and the second in his career. In 2022 he was champion of the BT 10 of Teresina (PI): “The feeling is the best possible. Last year we lost in the semifinals, this year we managed to reach the final, lots of emotion, playing at home, all with it’s inexplicable for us”, vibrated Eurico: “We started with a medium-low intensity and in the second set we started better, we opened the lead, we succeeded and in the super tie-break we also opened the lead at the beginning”, has continued.
Albuquerque won her first career ITF title: “It was one of my goals to win an ITF title, I have Eurico and the guys here at Marechal Deodoro to thank.”
In the Mixed Doubles of the professional, Pedro Consiglio, won the trophy together with Giovana Pedrini, also from Alagoas, beating the duo formed by Debora Amaro and Henri Lua in the final. In the BT 10 women’s tournament, the title went to Luisa Morais and Julia Gonçalves, who defeated Amanda Campos and Loana Oliveira in the final.
The competition, one of the largest in the world, saw the participation of 1,341 athletes from twelve countries (Brazil, United States, Italy, Germany, Spain, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Portugal, France, Russia, Chile and Latvia).
