Bing could replace Google as the default search engine for Samsung phones

Samsung considers replacing Google’s search engine with Microsoft’s Bing as the default on its mobile devices, the paper reveals

Rumors indicate that the SAMSUNG consider replacing the Google for the bing as the default search engine on the brand’s mobile phones, which would have left the Mountain View giant in a panic. The information comes from a report published by the New York Times last Sunday (16).

According to the article, Samsung informed Google about the possibility of starting to use Bing last month. If the South Korean brand chooses to use the search engine Microsoft on Galaxy devices, Google could have an impact on annual revenues in the order of $3 billion.

Google is racing against time

Samsung’s report triggered the alert on Google. Also according to the Times, the company is running out of time to develop a new search solution integrated with conversational AI to rival Bing.

While Bing is experiencing its renaissance phase thanks to the integration of OpenAI’s GPT technology, Google deals with the tepid launch of Bard, presented in Marchwhat it was criticized for its less than expected performance.

In this scenario, Google would be “radically changing” its strategy, according to the report, to create new tools using artificial intelligence and even inviting its own employees to bring ideas to present to Samsung. Some of these innovations are already expected in May, at the I/O 2023 conference.

Besides Samsung, Google should also be concerned about the apple: Apple’s contract, estimated at $20 billion, is also open for renegotiation this year. Apple used Bing as its default search engine for a few years, but switched back to using Google in 2017.
