The actress has commented on how the experience was in an interview.
Haley Lu Richardson has become known for the successful second installment of ‘The White Lotus’, one of the best series of 2022. But before becoming part of the tourist casting in Sicily, the actress did several projects, and auditioned for many others. Among them, Marvel.
Now the actress has commented on that audition for the MCU, and how “overwhelming” it was for the actress the moment she tried to enter the world of superheroes. The confession has been given in the famous Happy Sad Confused podcast, where the star of ‘On the edge of seventeen’ recalled having done a screen test for a Marvel project that finally did not come out.
After Josh Horowitz pointed out in the interview how she was considered for Batgirl, she asked if this was her first superhero audition, to which Richardson admitted: “No, I’ve done several and it’s too many, you know what I mean? ?” “I did a test for a Marvel character, and there were actual cameras in there, and they did our hair and makeup and stuff,” he said. “But they just told us what kind of street clothes to wear, what colors and stuff. We didn’t really put on a superhero costume.” “But yeah, it’s so overwhelming, because you’re committing to something you haven’t even seen a script for.“.
Horowitz confirmed this reality, explaining how actors sign “for the next five movies.” But according to Richardson, it’s not just that anymore: “Now it’s not even just five movies. It’s like seven years for whatever they want you to be, which, you know… there’s something very exciting about that if you come across it. …because hopefully you get to meet the director and the producers that are going to do it, and you come and look and read all the comics about the character… So there’s something that’s really exciting if you feel like all the other things they line up. It’s something you’d just like to trust and you could throw yourself into. But it’s a lot.”
Richardson has achieved more popularity after being one of the protagonists of the second season of ‘The White Lotus’ on HBO, where she played the role of Portia, Tanya’s assistant, the role repeated by Jennifer Coolidge, the only one from the first season. In 2016, Richardson starred in her Fremon Craig directorial debut, Edge of Seventeen, where she shared the screen with Hailee Steinfeld, Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgwick.
Next up for Richardson will be ‘Love at First Sight,’ which Netflix picked up in 2022. The Vanessa Caswill-directed film also stars Ben Hardy, Jameela Jamil, Rob Delaney, Dexter Fletcher and Sally Phillips. Based on the novel by Jennifer E. Smith, the film tells of Hadley and Oliver, who meet on a flight from New York to London. The chance of meeting again seems impossible, but love and the big city may have a way of defying the odds. The movie will be coming soon to Netflix.
