The film is about Jeanne Vaubernier, a young working-class woman with a thirst for culture and pleasure, who uses her intelligence and charm to climb the rungs of the social ladder. She meets King Louis XV and soon becomes his favorite companion. Thanks to their relationship, the taste for life that has already died out over the long years of reign returns to the king. Unaware of her status as a courtesan, the king invites Joan to the palace at Versailles, where her arrival angers the court. Gradually, Jeanne becomes one of the most influential women in France, the official favorite of the king, but those close to her do not like the influence of this woman, and they weave ingenious intrigues against Dubarry …
