Hollywood screenwriters approved a strike on Monday (17) if talks with major studios fail.
The Screen Writers Guild of America (WGA) is calling for better pay from major production companies and the strike was met with 98% support, according to the newspaper. THE New York Times.
Reasons for the strike
Consequences of the writers’ strike
The strike could be costly for Hollywood. The last one took place in 2007 and 2008 and lasted 100 days. About $2.1 billion was lost to California’s economy, according to an estimate by the Milken Institution, and television networks across the United States had to air reruns and reality shows.
Most Hollywood screenwriters live in Los Angeles or New York. Another stop had been approved in 2017, in a vote, for the same reason, but the agreement was reached on the last day of the contract.
