Go Power Rangers! The superheroes from the iconic 90s series return in an all-new adventure called Power Rangers: Always Into the Future! The film, available on Netflix, reunites much of the cast of the 1995 soap opera, fitting the proverbial: “One day tidy, forever tidy.”
Since it was impossible to think about changing the actors, the script justified the absence of several characters whose interpreters left us: Thuy Trang (also Trini Kwan, yellow Power Ranger) and Jason David Frank (Tommy Oliver, green Power Ranger) .
Invited to reprise the role of Kimberly Hart (Pink Power Ranger), Amy Jo Johnson turned down the offer because she considered herself too old, leaving the place open for her replacement, Katherine Sutherland.
Both look to the past, but also to the future, through a new generation symbolized by young actor Charlie Kerr, Power Rangers: Always Forward is a film full of eye-opening and other references.
Still, you don’t need an insider’s knowledge of the franchise to enjoy this barely 55-minute romp, which makes up for its obvious lack of budget with a story full of self-mockery and nostalgia that’s bound to win our sympathy.
Cobra Kai from the Power Rangers franchise?
“One Day Neat, Forever Neat”
This medium-length film has all the elements that made the saga a success: benevolent heroes carried by the power of friendship, a devilish villain (the iconic Rita Repulsa!), gadgets and other accessories, a flying car and of course the famous Megazord. If you grew up in the 90s, you’ll feel like you’re a teenager for an hour!
The aspect that might cause the most fear works surprisingly well, because the age of the main actors – in their fifties rather than their younger years – is not an issue here. What worked with Cobra Kai and the Karate Kid generation also works in proportion with the Power Rangers franchise.
Let’s be clear: if you didn’t grow up with this generation of Power Rangers, and if your teenage years don’t inspire nostalgia in you, then there’s no need to waste your time. If, on the other hand, you fit one of these two criteria, then it is possible that you will have a good time in front of this new production.
