Review: Chevrolet Tracker Midnight is a perfect SUV

We evaluate the new 2024 Chevrolet Tracker Midnight in the city and on the road, which has a 116 HP 1.0 turbo engine and automatic transmission

GM has made changes to the 2024 Chevrolet Tracker lineup, introducing two new versions: Midnight and RS. For a week we drove around the city and on the streets with the new Tracker Midnight, which is almost R$ 18,000 cheaper than the Tracker RS.

What’s new

This is the second time Chevrolet Tracker has won the Midnight version. It made its debut in the first generation of the SUV. Tracker Midnight stands out for its visual appearance.

It features the black Chevrolet logo, Midnight badge at the base of the front doors, black masked headlights, 17″ black-finished wheels, flat-bottom steering wheel with premium finish, and gloss black accents on the grille, outside mirrors and center inserts on fenders, plus seats with premium black finish and gray stitching.

what we like

The choice of the 1.0 turbo engine was good for positioning the Tracker Midnight, as the version was just under the ZTL, which is the top of the range with this engine.

With a weight/power ratio of less than 11 kg/hp, the Tracker Midnight is able to offer good performance with average fuel consumption. The 6-speed automatic helps. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in under 11 seconds and has good fuel consumption of 7.6 liters of petrol per 100 km on the road.

The MyLink multimedia center with wireless connection for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OnStar and myChevrolet App, as well as native Wi-Fi ensure the optimal connectivity package. Everything is simple and functional.

Overall, Chevrolet Tracker likes because it was designed to provide the items most popular with SUV consumers. For this reason, this Midnight version, in terms of workmanship and economy, is what we can define as the perfect SUV.

The low gear of the 6-speed automatic transmission is very useful when you have to descend a steep mountain range in rain and fog and compete for space with trucks.

what can improve

The car we evaluated had the color blue, but only in the document. Unless it hits a strong sun, it looks black. Why make a blue that everyone thinks is black?

The steering column adjustment is a little stiff and it feels like the little lever snaps off when released.

Power and KML

GM’s 1.0-litre turbocharged engine is equally powerful on petrol or ethanol: 116PS at 5,500rpm. There is a difference in torque: 160Nm on petrol and 165Nm on ethanol (both at 2,000rpm).

On petrol, the Tracker Midnight makes 11.2 km/l in the city and 13.6 on the highway. With ethanol it makes 7.8 km/l in the city and 9.6 on the highway.

Chevrolet Tracker Midnight is worth buying for its cost-effectiveness. It has a good equipment package, is comprehensive in terms of connectivity and comes with six airbags. The look is sober and elegant, the mechanics are suitable for the proposal of the compact SUV and tend to be appreciated on the market.
