After Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers continue their collaboration with Netflix. The platform recently officially announced the launch of the series The Boroughs, a project presented as mysterious and supernatural. The fiction is being created by Jeffrey Addis and Will Matthews, the duo behind the Dark Crystal series, and Matt and Ross Duffer will serve as executive producers.
The main plot lines were revealed:In a retirement community in the New Mexico desert, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from robbing them of the one thing they don’t have: time.“
In other words, this sci-fi series seems to be taking the opposite approach to Stranger Things by featuring older characters. An idea reminiscent of the eighties classic, Cocoon.
Eight episodes have already been ordered. The project is being produced by Upside Down Pictures, the company that is also producing the Stranger Things spin-off currently in development.
