One of the best disaster movies is getting a sequel starring the Top Gun actor

Scheduled to hit our theaters in July 2024, Twisters is expanding its cast. Glenn Powell, recently seen in Top Gun: Maverick, and Anthony Ramos, who will soon appear in Transformers 7, will join Daisy Edgar-Jones.

A new chapter in Jan de Bont’s disaster movie franchise, the feature film is directed by Lee Isaac Chung (The Minar) and written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant). Released in theaters in 1996, Twister followed the exploits of a group of Midwestern tornado chasers. Among them, Joe Harding, who as a child saw his father taken away by a tornado. Directed by Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton, this disaster film was a huge success, grossing nearly $500 million worldwide and quickly becoming a cult classic.

A new chapter, but not a sequel

27 years after the first part, a new film focusing on Tornado Hunters will see the light of day. But this new story is not a sequel, nor is it a return of old characters.

The studio describes Twisters as a “new chapter” of history. Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to play a former storm chaser who now works in an office after surviving a giant tornado. But he will be forced to return to the field…

Twister

Contrary to initial speculation, the British actress, who has appeared in Where the Crayfish Sing, Normal People and Fresh, will not be playing Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton’s daughter. The hero of the 1996 film will not be in the cast of this opus, due to a dispute with the studio.

variety Indeed, it is revealed that Helen Hunt and Dave Diggs, both of the Blindspotting series poster, were working on a script for a Twister sequel that Hunt was supposed to do, but the studio rejected the idea without accepting them.

New Tornado Hunters will land in our darkrooms on July 17, 2024.
