Brazilian Anitta has signed a new contract with Republic Records, Universal’s label, revealed the US magazine Variety. The new label is responsible for some of the biggest stars in American music, such as Taylor Swift, Drake, Ariana Grande, Post Malone and The Weeknd.
The news hasn’t been confirmed by the singer or the label yet, but the news comes just two weeks after Anitta ends her 11-year partnership with Warner Music. According to Variety, sources report that the artist would have paid “millions” to terminate her contract.
Even with a successful career, the end between the parties was not amicable. In recent weeks, the carioca has used social media to denounce the drama of breaking the contract. “When you’re young and don’t know much yet, you need to be very careful about the things you sign,” he wrote on Twitter. On Instagram, he posted, “I’ve asked the label to just do the simple job it’s supposed to do: promote my music.”
After the breakup, the artist and the label released a note saying they were parting ways. “After eleven years of successful partnership, we have decided to go our separate ways. Anitta would like to thank the Warner Music team for all their support. And the Warner team wishes Anitta all the best for the future.”
Anitta has successfully invested in her international career in recent years. The singer made a successful presentation at the Coachella music festival in California last year, as well as breaking out with the song “Envolver,” which hit #1 on Spotify worldwide. The Brazilian has also collaborated with international artists, such as Saweetie, Missy Elliott, Khalid and Maluma, received an award at the MTV Video Music Award in the “Best Latin” category and was nominated for a Grammy in the revelation of the year category.
He will also venture into acting, with confirmed participation in the ‘Elite’ series.
