Played masterfully by Jonathan Banks in Breaking Bad (then Better Call Saul, where we especially discover his nefarious past with the police), Gus Fring’s excellent landlord, Mike Ehrmantraut, is one of the most charismatic and delicious characters. A television franchise created by Vince Gilligan.
However, as we recently learned, Rhea Zehorn, Kim Wexler’s interpreter in the spin-off series, this main character who became important, did not appear in the original script and was created only to fill the absence of another actor.
Indeed, it is in Season 2 of Breaking Bad that we meet Mike for the first time. In the last episode, he goes to clean the apartment of Jesse, whose girlfriend recently died of a heroin overdose.
Authoritarian, monolithic and deliciously unusual, the character immediately fits into the world of the series. However, at first these series were not written for him, but for Bob Odenkirk (Sol Goodman), who could not go to the set that day.
“Bobby wasn’t available for Saul Goodman to come and clean his body, and that’s how the character of Mike Ehrmantraut was created.”Rhea Zehorn said at the microphone The Rich Eisen Show.
“Bobby was shooting something else And they wrote that when Kristen’s character died, she had to come and clean the body in this very cold and unfeeling way. His character had to start going in that direction, and he just wasn’t available, so they came up with Mike Ehrmantraut’s character.”
Today, after marveling at Jonathan Banks’ performance in 25 episodes of Breaking Bad and 59 episodes of Better Call Saul, we can only thank Bob Odenkirk for interrupting the filming of said scene.
