Horror: Very scary, this movie had to be changed after the traumatic test screenings

Croque-mitaine will be the next screen adaptation of Stephen King’s work. But the film’s scene would be so terrifying that it had to be reworked for the next theatrical release of the feature, scheduled to hit us on May 31.

The boogeyman is a 1973 story by Stephen King, a story that never ceases to terrify readers after its release. With the horror film of the same name, British director Rob Savage is now trying to bring the horror of reading to the big screen, which he says in an interview with Empire that he has succeeded in doing. Indeed, as German news site Kino reports, terrified screams from moviegoers during test screenings led to the film being remade.

At the first sight of the creature, the audience screamed so loudly, and then immediately started talking and gossiping with the neighbors, that they completely missed the next lines. So we had to cut it to 45 seconds so they didn’t miss any important information.

But the director is ultimately delighted with the reactions: “I’m a big fan of jump scares. That’s the most rewarding part when you see it happen with an audience and you feel them take the bait and then you feel the swing.

After films where he enjoyed complete artistic freedom, such as Host (2020) and DASHCAM (2022), Rob Savage seems to have experienced a smooth transition to the studio production system. “I was afraid it was going to be a compromise horror story, but every frame of this movie is the movie I wanted to make.– he said proudly.

Stephen King claims

In the same interview, Rob Savage also said that none other than horror master Stephen King liked the film starring Chris Messina and David Dastmalchian. The 75-year-old writer was indeed treated to a special session in his own cinema, which he left satisfied, as Rob Savage explains.

We rented his movie theater and showed the movie in Maine. I didn’t go because I was afraid he was doing “The Shining” stuff and he absolutely hates it. But it looks like she jumped on the bandwagon more than once and then sent this lovely, sweet message to everyone who worked on the film. And the next morning I got an email that said, “From Stephen King.” And he said, ‘Robert, I’m still thinking about your movie the next morning.’

The king said: Bring us that famous bogeyman.

Croque-mitaine will debut on our screens on May 31, 2023.
