A Brazilian team won the 2023 South American Under-17 football title. This Sunday, Brazil beat Argentina 3-2 and took the lead in the final hexagon. Confirmation of the cup, however, only came later, with a 1-1 draw between Ecuador and Venezuela. The Brazilian goals were from Riquelme, Dudu and Da Mata, while Giménez and Echeverri scored for the “hermanos”.
Brazil won its thirteenth South American in the category. The Selection finished the competition undefeated (being the only one not to lose any matches). Coach Phelipe Leal’s team finished the first stage at the top of Group A, with 10 points from three wins and one draw. In the final hexagon the team finished with 13 points (four wins and one draw).
The team took to the field this Sunday needing a combination of results to retain their title. With the same scoreline as Ecuador, Brazil trailed on goal difference. With the triumph over Argentina and the stumbling of the Ecuadorians, he won the cup.
Brazil had already secured a place for the World Cup in its category before the final phase, which also ended up confirming the South American title.
