James Gunn is ‘excited and relieved’ by casting choices for Superman: Legacy

The new headliner choices for Superman: Legacy seem to be getting clearer.

As ComingSoon reports, James Gunn has indeed responded to a fan’s question on his Twitter account, who wanted to know if anyone had stood out in the castings held so far to find a replacement for Henry Cavill in the Man of Steel. The director responded positively, saying that DC Studios had an “amazing choice” and that he was “relieved”.

Yes, we have an amazing selection. I am incredibly excited and relieved.

So it looks like things are quickly falling into place for the long-awaited DCU movie, which has just entered the pre-production phase. The shooting location and start date are also indicated.

According to the film’s official synopsis, Superman: Legacy will focus on Superman’s quest to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent from Smallville.

The first phase of the DC Universe, titled “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters”, will be explored through many films and TV series. Among the announced projects, we can mention three feature films: The Brave and the Bold focusing on Batman and Robin, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will feature Superman’s cousin, and a Swamp Thing movie, which is planned for around 2026.

Superman: Legacy hits theaters on July 9, 2025.
