DOES SWEAT HURT YOUR SKIN?

First of all, we must understand that sweat itself does not harm the skin. On the contrary, it is a mechanism that the body has to control the body’s temperature.

In the specific case of sweating under the breasts, what can happen is the so-called “itching”, i.e. allergies or skin irritations, and rubbing the skin with the bra can lead to increased sweating.

WHY DO WE SWEAT UNDER THE BREAST?

“You sweat more in hot, humid places,” explains the Dr. Viviana Scarpa , dermatologist of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology. “Both under the breasts and in the armpits and groin are places where we have this environment. If the breasts are more voluminous, the contact of one breast with the other or even of the breast with the bra or in contact with the skin of the bust makes this place get even hotter, which leads to more local sweating.”

On summer days, after physical activity or when we are more stressed or anxious, there may also be increased local sweating.

If you’re looking for a magical solution to stop sweating under your breasts, we have bad news: it’s not possible. However, you can minimize local sweating with some dermatologist advice:

  • Dry your breasts well after bathing
  • Change your clothes if you sweat a lot or after exercising
  • Invest in baby powder: they help reduce perspiration, as they increase the evaporation surface, keeping the region drier

HOW TO DEAL WITH COMFORTABLE SWEAT UNDER THE BREAST?

“The complication of excessive sweating can be the appearance of mycosis or also called intertrigo,” explains the doctor. “The fungus present in our own skin thrives in warm, humid environments. In this case, reddish, itchy and even scaly lesions can appear.”

Therefore, Dr. Viviane explains that, in addition to the measures already mentioned to reduce sweating, the use of ointments or creams with nystatin and oxide after drying the region well, are the same active ingredients used in cases of diaper rash.

However, one caveat remains: if the injury does not improve, the ideal is to suspend all practice and seek professional guidance.
