On Monday, April 24, 2023, Canal+ begins broadcasting its new police series BRI, which, as its name suggests, takes place within the investigation and intervention brigade.
This very well-documented fiction was created and written by Erwan Augiard and Jeremy Guess, based on the latter’s story, in collaboration with Jean-Baptiste Delafon and Louis Lagayette.
Ultra realistic series
Jeremy Gus also signs on to produce eight episodes of the first season, in which he directs a new and exciting cast. In the credits, viewers find Sofiane Khams, Ofeli Bau, Theo Christine, Raba Knight Ofela, Wael Sersub, Sami Outalbal or even Nina Meurice, Bruno Todeskin, Emmanuelle Devos and Vincent Elbaz.
Here the action takes place within the Versailles BRI, a historical unit specializing in organized crime. Syed leads a team of young elite cops, both reckless and efficient.
A former member of the special forces replaces Patrick, a charismatic leader who built his police legend during 20 years with Eric, the leader of the Paris underworld clan.
Sayid must find his place in his group and avoid a gang war between Eric’s family and the El Hassan brothers’ family. But it was without hope for Patrick, who was determined to return to the scene if Said refused to take sides in settling these accounts, risking the fire of the capital…
When diving with agents
Very realistic, this project has been meticulously prepared by Jeremy Guess, a true expert in this particular field. More so, did he and his co-stars go with real BRI agents to get as close as possible to the day-to-day lives of these characters?
At the press conference, Jeremy Guess, passionate about this topic, confirmed: “The Versailles BRI has fully preserved its forensic policing and anti-gang heritage. (…) It was interesting to see today’s reality, in a world where there is less robbery, where crime has evolved and adapted to hyper-capitalist societies. For me, this was the best laboratory to get the best shot of this situation.“
“The actors and I followed real BRI agents. When I go there, I really don’t like to ask questionscontinued the director. I just love watching how they talk, where they put their guns, how the tails of the cars go, how long they sleep… it speaks to me more. (…) I’m looking for something more instinctive and that’s spending time with them.“
Intense training and camaraderie
Sofian Khames (Said) then spoke:We were well supported by agents who often gave us advice. Thanks to this, we bring a touch of modernity. (…) we also gain credibility because this is what happens on the ground, he assured her.
The new grammar was very difficult to learn, but it was still very enjoyable. (…) The guys who trained us were there every day on the set, as well as the BRI police officers with whom we became friends.“
“After these trainings, we wanted to take another step to be even more efficient.Added by Rabah Nait Ouffela (Badr). When I watch the episodes, I’m very happy with what we were able to do technically. We wanted to be perfect to honor those who taught us.”
Accordingly, intensive and applied training, which will last a month and a half, not including personal training. Mission complete !
