This is the beginning of Eve’s descent into hell in Un si grand soleil.
After losing her beloved man, the French teacher will unfortunately face new difficulties. While Claudine makes the decision to close down the seduction agency, Eva is also suspended from her high school duties.
With the Montpellier police investigating Aline’s suspicious death, Eva decides to investigate Aline’s death to clear her honor. Emma Colbert, Eva’s interpreter, confided in the microphone of Allocine what lies ahead for her character during the next episodes of the France 2 daily soap opera.
Alocine: Going back to the beginning of the Un si grand soleil adventure, what did you like about playing Eva?
Emma Colbert: At first glance, her role as a French teacher. For the first time I was going to play a teacher, moreover, the subject of French, which I like very much. Really enjoyed it.
And then, it was carte blanche too. There weren’t many elements on Eve that allowed me to project myself and invest in myself.
Her relationship with her son, Elliot (Stephane Montpetit), also added quite an interesting dimension to the game. I have a son who is Elliot’s age and I have the complete opposite relationship with him. So I was interested in playing something that conflicted with my relationship with my son.
After her son’s departure, Eva no longer has a family base. Don’t you miss me so much?
Yes, I miss you. Also, Stéphane Montpet is an actor I really admired. Apart from his extraordinary character and their very intense relationship, I loved the man. Maybe I should call him and ask him to come back for a little walk (laughs). That would be good. I think the writers and the production will be happy to see it.
But it’s true that aside from being with Manus (Moses Santamaria) and Virgil (Fred Bianconi), who has become her best friend, Eva is a bit lonely. We don’t know his parents, he doesn’t have strong friendships. We see him from time to time with Sabine (Gala Le Devehat) and Mo (Frédéric Camatari), but I don’t feel a strong friendship. Rather, they are working relationships. I would like authors to link to it. I think we need a little bit too.
Eve has undergone an interesting, not to say surprising, evolution. While working as a French teacher, she started a money-laundering business before setting up a seduction agency. Were you surprised when you read the script to take this different turn in your character’s life?
Yes, of course. It also gave me an idea of who he is. Beneath its official function and all-around feminine side, it exhibits far less sleek aspects. We feel that he wants to go and experience something that is far away from it all. So I told myself that Eva might have had a bourgeois upbringing, but she really didn’t. It’s like you’re going to the heart of who you really are.
I think Eva is a woman who needs to express herself in a way other than her position. He’s freer than that and wants to explode a bit. It’s not a midlife crisis, it’s just him discovering himself. I think he needs extreme freedom.
Money laundering did not surprise me because she was ready to do anything for her son. An agent of temptation, on the other hand, is something else. At first I was wondering what I was going to do as an actor. Temptresses are mostly young women aged 30/35. Even if 50-year-old women are attractive, they are not the ones to destabilize married men. So I was wondering how I would approach this. In the end, what the authors gave me was quite an intellectual role in this sense. Then we changed it a bit, but we didn’t play too much on temptation.
What surprised me was that Eva did not request a meeting with Laetitia, Manu’s ex-wife who is a banker, to get the authorization for the larger overdraft. I would do that (laughs). But I tell myself that if she didn’t choose this solution, it means that Eve is a woman who wants to experiment. He needs it.
Eva is currently at the center of the intrigue surrounding Aline’s death. An incident which unfortunately hastened the end of her love affair with Manu. Is this really the end of this iconic couple or is there hope that they can overcome this ordeal?
There is hope. A lifeline is found in Manu’s psychoanalysis sessions. A psychologist will help him put aside his ego and perhaps encourage him to overcome this ordeal. It must be said that Manu is tough. He is strict, has rules and values that he does not want to break. There are plenty of people who say he’s macho, but he’s not. On the contrary, he is a man who loves women. He is attentive to them, but stubborn. Therefore, sessions with a psychiatrist will soften it a bit.
In fact, Eve did not deceive him. He cheated, but it wasn’t real cheating. He was afraid of his reaction precisely because he is heavy. He indulged her in her moment of weakness, but in absolute terms, she did nothing serious. Manu needs to do the work of putting things back into context and not just looking at appearances.
In addition to the stories of the heart, Eva begins to ask herself questions about the death of Aline. He is sure that he did not kill himself, he will carry out the investigation secretly. What can you tell us about it?
There are things that will put a flea in the ear. And then, this whole story destroys his image immensely. The rectorate will dismiss him from his position and in order to restore integrity, he will lead an investigation. He also asks for help from Virgil, who is reluctant at first. But since the situation is dangerous, he finally joins her. Then he will fight and lead a small battle that will be useful.
Manu will surely realize that Eve and Virgil are secretly investigating…
He will try to talk to Manu and tell him that he has the items of investigation. However, she thinks he’s doing it to tell her about their breakup, so she doesn’t want to know.
In Un si grand soleil, doing an investigation usually doesn’t lead to anything good. I imagine Eva and Virgil will take significant risks to get the information…
He will put himself in a bit of danger, yes.
Temptation Agency is permanently closed. Will Eva start a new business to make ends meet?
I would like to. Eva likes her job, but she needs to do something else. I really want the authors to write something in this regard.
The Un si grand soleil series is known for defending strong social issues. Is there a theme you want to champion through your character?
This has already been discussed, but I want to defend the cause of the animal. This is a topic close to my heart. Beyond this question, everything has to do with intensive agriculture and our planet. This is a cause that is close to my heart as it covers many things such as our health. I am very interested in health and lifestyle. I argue that eating meat every day is not good. The industrialization of the animal trade hurts everyone.
Do you have any other projects besides Un si grand soleil that you can tell us about?
Soon I will shoot a film by Frédéric Cerulli with Olivier Marshall and Patrick Timsitt, in which I will be a companion. We will return to filming next year.
