Skin 2022: The stairs feature the names of 129 victims of feminicide

Banner, smoke bombs … steep steps in the skin yesterday. In parallel with the presentation of the documentary Riposte Féministe, feminists published the names of 129 victims of femicide.

Sharp red carpet for Riposte Féministe! The event took place on the stairs on Sunday, May 22, at the presentation of a documentary film co-directed by Simon Depardon and Marie Perenes.

Members of the Les Colleuses movement, from all over France, unfurled a banner with the names of 129 victims of feminicide.

Documentary The feminist response Focuses on the thousands of young women who are mobilized to condemn the sexist violence, street harassment, and macho remarks they experience on a daily basis. At night, armed with white sheets and black paint, they carry victim support messages and slogans against feminicides. Some have been feminists for a long time, some have never been activists, but all are rebels against violence that has too often turned their lives upside down.

We met the director duo in Cannes on Monday, May 23rd. Simon Depardon And Marie Perenes. They returned to our microphone on the day of the red carpet, presentation and mobilization. The film distributor had invited 14 gluttons representing several cities.

Our idea was to assemble them. They have already exchanged a bit on social media. ” Says Simon Depardon. “There was an opportunity to show them a film for the first time and to establish a connection between them. They used climbing stairs to unfurl a banner about 129 femicide after the last Cannes Film Festival. After them. I set off smoke bombs that we did not know existed. I think it was good that I used this opportunity to have a good image, to show that the film is about that, that this is a very important topic. The most important thing for us was to show them a movie.

For us, the fact that he is alive, that they are reacting in the room, and therefore the community is responding, that’s really what we wanted to do with this film, continues Marie Perens: reacting, maybe. Knows … in any case reading, interrogation, creating dialogues, emotions. Sunday’s show was full of all that. It was a day full of emotions. Let them meet. It was invigorating and energetic for all of us“.

Putting this movie here, doing the action allows us to talk and that is the most important thing

We were happy with this choice. I think it is interesting that the Cannes Film Festival and Thierry Fremo made the decision to show a similar film. “Beyond the political subject, I think the form of the film has also been misunderstood,” the duo continues. , It also helps with visibility. We think that’s good. We know that only 20% of the films are directed by women. So putting this movie here, doing the action, it allows us to talk about it and that is the most important thing.

How do you reach the widest possible audience with a documentary like this? We asked them a question.

“We’ve already shot this film in equal numbers for this reason. It was very important for us to have an equal team in the production that would be able to accurately balance all these different levels of discourse. “To say that this is the way to think, to act, to do. See what is happening in this place to raise awareness.”

Feminine Riposte will be released on November 9, preceded by reviews, testimonials and debates.
