Although the spin-off of ‘The Marauders’ still seems to us the best option to revive the Universe of ‘Harry Potter’… If you can’t beat your enemy, join him.
The HBO series on the ‘Harry Potter’ novels is already a fact. And, despite the fact that many of the fans of the saga initially thought it was a terrible idea, you have to face the fact that Warner Bros. intends to continue with the matter. That being said, if you can’t beat your enemy, join him, right?
Assuming that we will see our favorite characters with other faces, Hogwarts castle with other environments (please hope this doesn’t change too much), and some of the magical places where the movies were shot, replaced by different locations. ; we can try to look on the bright side of the matter: a serial format can bring with it a much greater depth of history. If approximately 2 and a half hours were enough to make an unforgettable recreation of JK Rowling’s novels, several batches of chapters hide endless possibilities, which perhaps we are still not capable of imagining.
Although the spin-off of ‘The Marauders’ still seems to us the best possible option to revive the Universe of ‘Harry Potter’, and although ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ could also give rise to new great content, let’s think carefully about this new horizon: What great plots forgotten in the movies could be used in the HBO Max series? whatWhat are the discarded stories that would be worth visiting in this new adaptation? [Spoiler: No son pocas.]
‘Harry Potter’: Lord Voldemort’s Past
One of the plots absent in the movies (and one of the most relevant losses in the film saga), is Lord Voldemort’s family past.
Slytherin’s rightful heir has a most colorful past. In the movies, we barely saw his stay in the Riddle family orphanage and cemetery drawn. However, there is much more.
The origin of the dark magician is dealt with much more thoroughly in the novels.. In them, we discover the importance of the ring of Marvolo Gaunt (Tom’s grandfather); also Merope, his mother; Tom’s muggle family; Parseltongue as the mother tongue of the Gaunt family… And much more.
Vital information for the story and that, thanks to the series, we could see adapted into an audiovisual version.
‘Harry Potter’: House Elves and the FART
The PEDDO, or Elven Platform for the Defense of Workers’ Rights, is another of those absent in the ‘Harry Potter’ films. The association founded by Hermione Granger to defend the freedoms and rights of House Elves is not mentioned throughout the 8 tapes.
However, in the novels it does exist and appears for the first time after the Quidditch World Cup, during Harry, Ron and Hermione’s fourth school year.
Did you think that the food that appears in the Great Hall was created out of nothing? No, behind such a feast there are tireless workers. Although in the movies we only stop to meet Dobby and Kreacher, there is a whole elven network that has remained invisible. Maybe, just so far… Will the series explore this plot?
‘Harry Potter’: The Story of Albus Dumbledore
In the seventh ‘Harry Potter’ novel, ‘The Deathly Hallows’, an exhaustive analysis of Albus Dumbledore’s past is made. Harry reads it in a copy of the Daily Prophet, which carries an excerpt from Rita Skeeter’s recently published book, ‘The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore’.
In this chapter, the family of the director of Hogwarts is discovered, his past relationship with Grindelwald is revealed and numerous details appear before Harry that are fundamental to understanding one of the key characters of ‘Harry Potter’.
Hopefully, the series will put an eye on this and we will finally see one of the most gripping stories in the books on the screen.
‘Harry Potter’: Where’s Peeves?
Peeves is one of the main ghosts that haunt the castle. Determined to spend eternity playing pranks on Hogwarts students, this character is very recurring in Rowling’s novels. However, when it came time to adapt the books to the big screen, this character was removed entirely.
Will we see Peeves in the HBO series? Without a doubt, for those fans of the film adaptation who have not read the originals, the result may be strange. Suddenly they will wonder, who is this ghost? Was not Nearly Headless Nick the main spectrum of the saga?
as shared ScreenRantthe absence of the joker poltergeist it was not always an intentional decision. In fact, an actor was selected to get into his skin. It was Rick Mayall, who came to shoot some scenes that ended up being deleted from ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’.
The actor, who unfortunately passed away in 2014, will not be able to resume his character in the HBO series.
‘Harry Potter’: The search for the Horcruxes, in depth
Finding the parts of Voldemort’s soul is not an easy task at all. The most powerful Dark Magician of recent times does not make things easy, much less when it comes to destroying him. Why not dedicate an objective and realistic period of time to the search for the Horcruxes? Not only in the case of the three protagonists, but in the process that Albus Dumbledore followed until he found Marvolo Gaunt’s ring (Tom Riddle’s grandfather), for example.
This ring would not only be turned into a Horcrux, it was also one of the last jewels that Voldemort’s family kept from their ancestors. This was marked with the Peverell family insignia (later we discovered that it was actually the Resurrection Stone). It’s an incredibly valuable item in history and barely touched upon in the movies.
The cursed ring is also responsible for Dumbledore’s death.
‘Harry Potter’: Albus Dumbledore’s Funeral
One of the most emotional scenes in the saga occurs moments after the death of Albus Dumbledore and the escape from Snape and the Death Eaters from Hogwarts. The students and teachers of the school gather around the lifeless body of the principal and illuminate the sky with their lights.
However, in JK Rowling’s sixth book, a magnificent funeral is recounted that was not reproduced in the film because it involved a high production cost. Evanna Lynch herself, the actress who gave life to Luna Lovegood in the movies (and who is a great fan of novels), offered to reduce her salary if it allowed her to afford the recording of the scene.
However, it ended up not being done. The series could be a perfect opportunity to rescue this moment in history.
‘Harry Potter’: The tragic romance between Lupine and Tonks
Remus Lupine (also known as Lunatic) was one of the great friends of James Potter, Harry’s father. He too, years later, he would become Harry’s Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in his third year of school.
Nymphadora TonksFor her part, she was a young Auror who was part of the Second Order of the Phoenix, and who worked under the watchful eye of Ojoloco Moody (Alastor Moody) in the Ministry of Magic.
Although she expresses her love to Lupin, he considers himself unworthy of it. His complexes with his lycanthrope status are too strong and he decides to reject Tonks’ love. However, some time later, he ends up giving in to the romance, marries her and they have a child together.
During the Battle of Hogwarts, both are killed by Death Eaters.
This tragic romance is hardly reflected in the movies. It can be understood thanks to certain gestures or details, but not even remotely explores all its complexity. Maybe the series can rescue him, after all…
JK Rowling’s novels hide an extremely large and complex world. In addition to these plots, many more details present in the books could be explored… The mirror that Sirius gives Harry (and that saves them during the seventh book), Severus and Lily’s childhood, the story of The Marauders… Maybe a serial format isn’t as bad as we imagined…
