Charlie Sheen Charlie Sheen is set to return to the small screen with Chuck Lorre, the creator of My Uncle Charlie, after a career and many escapades. It is a surprising story if we remember the complicated history of the two men. Their new project, titled How To Be A Bookie, has been announced as a comedy series for the Max platform – formerly HBO Max.
To understand the stakes of this return to television, you have to go back to 2011. At the time, Charlie Sheen was the star of My Uncle Charlie, the hit CBS series that ran for 8 seasons. Problem: An actor combines opposites.
His addiction to alcohol and drugs, allegations of domestic violence and suffering on the set complicate his relationship with the team. The untouchable star doesn’t really worry until the day he gets into a violent altercation with creator Chuck Lorre.
Charlie Sheen insults him. CBS suspended production in late February 2011 before terminating the actor’s contract a few weeks later. Cast out, he became persona non grata in Hollywood until he was finally replaced two months later by another actor: Ashton Kutcher.
So the series continues without Charlie Sheen for another four years. The end of My Uncle Charlie comes in 2015 with the release of its twelfth – and therefore final – season.
Eight years have passed. The Wall Street star seems to have calmed down, and this return marks a new chapter in the history of the Shin-Lori duo, far from the contradictions and resentments of the past. For this reason, How To Be A Bookie is already becoming one of the most anticipated series of the year.
