Michael Keaton captures all the attention of the fandom by recovering his Batman in the trailer for ‘Flash’. Three decades later, Tim Burton is still right.
We know that we are entering swampy terrain, the DC fandom is one of the most “enthusiastic” groups on the Internet, but since we do nothing but fall down to learn to get up, we are going to dare with this statement: Michael Keaton’s Batman has been the best in history and the trailer for ‘The Flash’ shows it 30 years later.
We are still recovering from the blows received when we dared to publish the list with the Batman movies ordered from worst to best, a review of the bat on the big screen that seems to fit perfectly with this return to the first dark Gotham guardian of the cinema, all a success in the late 80s and early 90s that also appears twice in the review of the best Tim Burton films.
The trailer for ‘The Flash’: the “Flashpoint” arrives
In the new trailer for ‘The Flash’, called simply ‘Flash’ in Spain, they have not minced words and They have shown us to what extent they are going to play with ‘Flashpoint’, the DC Comics event in which Barry Allen traveled back in time to save his mother and changed everything we knew so far.
“With this film we are talking about a new universe,” explained the controversial Ezra Miller during filming, before becoming one of Warner’s biggest headaches. “It’s not just the DC multiverse, it’s the multiverse of speedsters. And it’s these speedsters that connect all the pieces. Marvel is a universe, right? A world with the same characters living in it. DC is a multiverse so: all these different stories with different realities, different characters and different versions of said characters… and speedsters like Flash move between all of it.”
In the preview we can already see different versions of the protagonist (played by Miller), a new Supergirl (Sasha Calle), Michael Shannon’s terrible General Zod that we met in ‘Man of Steel’ (Zack Snyder, 2013) and, Of course, two dark knights.
On the one hand we have good old Ben Affleck, Bruce Wayne from ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (Zack Snyder, 2016), ‘Justice League’ (Joss Whedon, Zack Snyder, 2017) and his reinterpretation , ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ (Zack Snyder, 2021). On the other, the magnetic Michael Keaton.
Batman is Michael Keaton
In 1966 ‘Batman’ (Leslie H. Martinson) was released, a feature film from the colorful series headed by Adam West which, in addition to popularizing the character, gave him a “camp” and burlesque tone from which it took him more than twenty years to escape.

The influence of authors such as Alan Moore and Frank Miller made Tim Burton manage to establish the character in the industry in a definitive way. and, to do so, he trusted his colleague Michael Keaton, with whom he had just shot ‘Bitelchús’ (1988).
Despite the initial violent rejection of a crazy fandom (pleonasm), Michael Keaton became ‘Batman’ (Tim Burton, 1989) in a now essential version of the character, a sober and somewhat clumsy Bruce Wayne when dealing with matters publicly who, inside the doors of his mansion, became a tortured gothic hero.
Three years after his first trip to Gotham, and with his ‘Edward Scissorhands’ (1990) underlining Burton’s author status, Warner once again counted on the filmmaker to extend “Batmania”. The result was the essential ‘Batman Returns’ (1992), a dark story that made the producers frown, worried about losing the youthful audience.
Gotham’s New Guardians
At that time it was impossible to guess the path by which Michael Keaton would achieve his honorary status, topping our list of Batman actors ordered from worst to best.
The first to help the actor was Joel Schumacher, director of ‘Batman Forever’ (1995) and ‘Batman and Robin’ (1997), the titles with which Val Kilmer and George Clooney added positions in a ranking that each time had Keaton higher.
Christian Bale did an excellent job in ‘Batman Begins’ (2005), ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008) and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ (2012)but the weight of his villains (and Christopher Nolan) made the hero a secondary.
Batffleck’s arrival was overshadowed by some films that never lived up to it and, although Robert Pattinson has a promising future, the weaknesses of ‘The Batman’ (Matt Reeves, 2022) still do not let us see the forest.
Michael Keaton is Batman
Batman is Bruce Wayne, the bat man, the dark knight, the guardian of Gotham, the best detective in the world, the masked crusader or whatever you want to call him, but what has become clear after seeing the new trailer for ‘The Flash’, is that Michael Keaton is Batman.
Submerged in a seemingly endless well of nostalgia, the yellow reflection of its logo on the black suit has made the willies of all those who lived through that “batmania” and many of those who were not even in the project yet.
With ‘Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)’ (Alejandro González Iñárritu, 2014) as a starter and his Vulture from ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ (Jon Watts, 2017) as a warning, Michael Keaton’s return as Batman was already announced by himself in 2018.
