Banco do Brasil to withdraw sponsorship of Agrishow after agriculture minister ‘disinvites’

The country’s largest agricultural event advised Carlos Fávaro not to attend because former president Jair Bolsonaro was reportedly attending the inauguration

Banco do Brasil will withdraw its sponsorship of agrishow, the largest agricultural event in the country. The information has been confirmed to Stadium/Broadcast by the Minister of Social Communications of the Presidency of the Republic, Paulo Pimenta.

The decision comes after the organization of the fair advised Agriculture Minister Carlos Fávaro to attend the second day of the fair and warned him of the possible presence of former president Jair Bolsonaro at the opening of the fair on Monday, the 1st. .

As Estadão showed, Bolsonaro’s presence at the fair, plus the Landless Movement’s invasions of productive lands, alienated the Lula government from Agrishow.

“Impoliteness and change of character from an institutional event for the promotion of agri-food to an event with political and ideological characteristics. Either it is a plural and non-partisan business fair or it cannot be publicly sponsored”, said the minister.

Paulo Pimenta told the report that he did not know if the organization of the fair had already been informed. He specifies that the bank will also be at the fair with the withdrawal of the sponsorship. Earlier, Banco do Brasil informed that it intends to shell out R$1.5 billion in business during the fair.

The Agrishow organization denies having withdrawn the invitation to the minister and claims that it was an “alert” to avoid possible embarrassment. Agrishow’s attitude was seen, as well as being “rudeness”, as a provocation of the event against the federal government and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, prioritizing the opposition on stage.

“I wasn’t invited, perhaps to avoid some inconvenience. I was asked if it wouldn’t have been better for me to go on the 2nd. I understood the message, I understood. On another occasion I visited Agrishow with great affection. All in good time “, Favaro told CNN Brasil.

Before confirming which bank would withdraw its sponsorship, the Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, had suggested that the federal government boycott the fair.
