Tonight on TV: Stranger Things would never exist without this movie that an entire generation is celebrating

With an original idea from Steven Spielberg, with whom he had already collaborated on Gremlins and The Secret of the Pyramid, Chris Columbus is writing the script for The Goonies, also drawing inspiration from his youth in an industrial town in Ohio.

Thus, the film follows the adventures of Mike, Choco, Bagu and Data, a group of friends who live in the quiet coastal town of Astoria, where nothing happens… until they stumble upon a treasure map. Forget it!

Directed by Richard Donner Guns Combines all the elements to captivate the audience of adults (we see Spielberg in the production): a strong initiatory story, an epic treasure hunt, but also a lot of tenderness. And lots of movie references!

Released in 1985, the film grossed $121 million internationally—including $61 million on American soil—on a modest budget of $19 million. In France, it has a total of 1.1 million admissions.

Like the iconic Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Dream Creature or Teen Wolf, Guns is part of the classic film culture of the 1980s. A seminal film for an entire generation that especially inspired the Duffer brothers for their Stranger Things series.
