Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s taking charge of Corinthians has divided opinion among supporters. But for former player Cicinho, the coach is a good name to help the club come out of the bottom of the table in Brasileirão.
“If there’s a coach who can free Corinthians from relegation this year, it’s Luxembourg,” the commentator said on Monday’s program SBT arena.

Cicinho also analyzed Timão’s squad, underlining the team’s reliance on midfielder Renato Augusto. Even with the coach’s arrival, the former winger said Corinthians will remain among the last in the league.
“Luxembourg is a coach who can free up this restricted team, because with Renato Augusto it’s one thing, and without him it’s another. He comes with authority to get something out of the players, who aren’t in a good moment. Corinthians are a prime candidate to drop,” he added.
Announced last Monday, Luxemburgo has already started his third spell at the club and had his first contact with coach Dr. Gioacchino Grava’s players. The commander’s debut on the sideline will take place this Tuesday, when Corinthians will receive the Independiente del Valle for Libertadores, at 21:00.
