Dutch police arrest man for using a fake Boris Johnson ID

The document ‘issued’ in 2019 carried the name, photo and date of birth of the former British prime minister.

An arrest has aroused surprise in the Dutch police: when they stopped a man driving drunk, the officers came across a document with the name and photo of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The driving license – which is fake – was presumably issued in 2019, in Ukraine, and was valid until the year 3000.

“Unfortunately for that person, we didn’t fall for their fakeness”the Groningen police said on their Instagram account.

The case came in the early hours of Monday (1), when Dutch police investigated a car crash into a pole, near the Emma bridge, in the city of Groningen, which is located in the north of the Netherlands. According to The Guardian, the car was abandoned with the document inside. Later, the police were informed that the driver had been stopped on the same bridge.

‘Man driving with fake Boris Johnson ID refused to take breathalyzer test’ the police spokesman said Thijs Damstra.

The agents were unable to say where the forged document was made, but, according to Kysia Hekster, journalist of Dutch public broadcaster NOS and former Russian correspondent, that counterfeit driving licenses can be easily bought in tourist shops in Ukraine. No one expected that audacity would go so far by forging a Boris Johnson document.
