After Captain Marlowe, Corinne Masiero is La Marginal, an outstanding comedy in cinema.

In La Marginale, Corinne Masiero, our national captain Marlo, portrays Michelle, a homeless person. The latter lives in Orly Airport, wandering between different halls. He regularly meets Theo, a young cleaner at the airport.

Due to a mental disorder, he lives with his “aunt” who is overprotective of him. One day, Michelle makes the most unexpected discovery, as a result of which she convinces Theo to take her unlicensed car to Lisbon to find her son. They then embark on a road trip full of twists and turns through departmental roads.

Origin of the project

The original idea of La Marginale belongs to co-screenwriter Euridice da Silva. The latter was struck by the story at Royce Airport.

While rummaging through a trash can, a homeless man leaned against the door that allowed him to enter the cashier’s premises, where he found a bag full of cash. He left with 500,000 euros in his pocket!

Director Franck Cimier explains that Eurydice da Silva turned the homeless into a woman who is about to cross France in search of her son, who has been missing for years. Together they started from this base and imagined a disabled young man accompanying him in an unlicensed car to make the journey as difficult and slow as possible.

I liked the idea of it being a road movie in an unlicensed car, because such a trip between Paris and Lisbon offers many twists and turns.”emphasizes the director.

Talk about disability

Frank Cimier wanted to be interested in the life of the disempowered characters, two suffering beings, a mother in search of her son and a son in search of his mother, traveling together.

For the filmmaker, Michel is the most disabled of the two because he can no longer live a normal life and is the one who suffers the most.

Little by little, she finds a taste for life by accompanying someone who, on paper, has a bigger flaw than hers. Then we realize that disability is relative. The director explains.

Corinne Masiero / Vincent Chalambert

In order to find someone to play Theo, Franck Cimier traveled all over France to ESAT (Establishment and Service through Work), these structures, some of which specialize in theater and which allow people with disabilities to carry out professional activities.

Vincent Chalambert is an employee of the Théâtre de Cristal and performs in shows throughout the year. That’s why Frank Cimieri met all disabled people in the four corners of the country:

“And I saw Vincent, who lived 5 km from my house! He was amazing. Also, at the Crystal Theatre, I listened to other actors recommending some of their colleagues who they said could do the part better than them. They are extremely generous And they stand aside for professional career and ego stakes.the film director recalls.

Corinne Masiero, Evidence

For Frank Cimieri, choosing Corinne Masiero for the role of Michelle was an obvious choice: in addition to her talent as an actress, she actually lived on the streets and was therefore a consultant on the set.

“At one point, Michelle ties a scarf around her wrist and a shopping basket that she puts all her things in, because Corinne told me you have to tie it to your things when you sleep on the street.”– says the director.

“Also, he puts his slippers in his sleeping bag so he doesn’t steal them. In addition to his acting skills, Corinne is so well immersed in this life experience that he knew exactly what he was talking about. That was it. It’s great for the role because it gave him a real basis. The film often depicts homeless people from the angle of an angel, but I wanted it to be tough.”– says Frank Cimieri.

The Marginal hits theaters on May 3.
